- Wayne Rooney wants his former club to sign Kane and says he is the ideal candidate
Wayne Rooney has named Harry Kane an ideal player for Manchester United to sign to complete their attack and boost their chances of competing next season.
Kane is entering the final year of his contract at Tottenham Hotspur and has yet to agree to another one, with a move away on his mind amid interest from top European clubs.
The attempt to leave the club appears like a routine that has been happening for four summers now. The Telegraph confirmed Spurs rejected four bids up to £125 million from Manchester City in 2021.
Daniel Levy has commenced his rejection spree once more, having reportedly rejected two bids up to £70mil from Bayern Munich, who have Kane's blessings to proceed with negotiations.
Rooney names Kane ideal candidate
Wayne Rooney has summed up Kane's situation at Tottenham as 'a hostage situation' and revealed why it is difficult to get out.
He believes the striker knows he has to leave and there are trophies out there for him to win.
"It looks difficult, it looks like he's being held as a prisoner at Tottenham. It looks very difficult for him to get out of there. I thought it was time to go last season and he stayed," he exclusively told The Athletic.
"He has done everything he can for that to try and be at Tottenham. Now probably is right for him to move on, and it looks like he’s ready for that, but we know Tottenham can be quite difficult at times."
Rooney tipped Kane as a player that could make it a lot easier for United, with United ending their interest in Kane and considered other options, including Atalanta striker, Rasmus Hojlund, who is expected to sign in the new window, per Sports Brief.
