Arsenal are reportedly on the verge of losing out on the signing of Sporting CP forward Tiago Tomas this summer.
The Gunners have been linked with a move to land the 18-year-old star but their inability to qualify for any European competition could hinder their chances.

The youngster was said to have signed a new five years deal in June 2020, with a £52 million release clause included in the deal according to The Mirror and Daily Mail.
But the effect of the financial crisis caused by the deadly coronavirus pandemic forced them to lower the price tag on him to about £20m.
The Lisbon-based club has now changed its stance after winning the Primeira Liga for the first time since 2002 and also qualified for the Champions League according to a report from the Sun.
They are now desperate to keep the majority of their squad together in a bid to put out quality performances in Europe next term.
Meanwhile, the Emirates Stadium side's failure to qualify for Europe for the first time in 25 years stands in their way of landing Tomas this summer.
The 18-year-old was on target six times in 37 games in all competitions for Sporting last season, including the winner in their Europa League third-round qualifying tie with Aberdeen.
Legit.ng earlier reported that Willian is considering a stunning return to Chelsea after just one season with the Gunners.
The Brazilian dumped the Blues last summer after the expiration of his deal and subsequently moved to Arsenal on a three-year deal as a free agent.
However, the winger has failed to leave a mark at the Emirates since his switch, managing just one goal in 37 appearances this season.
