FootballHarry Maguire's Wife Responds After Centre Back Announces He Is No Longer Man United Captain
- Harry Maguire’s wife shared a lovely message in support of the embattled defender
- This came after the 30-year-old was stripped of the captaincy by Manchester United
- Maguire has been strongly linked with a move away to another Premier League club
Harry Maguire’s wife, Fern Hawkins, responded to news that her hubby was stripped of the Manchester United captaincy with a delightful message of support on social media.
On July 16, Maguire announced on social media that he would not be the Red Devils' captain next season, in a revelation which opened the door for a potential exit.
Maguire then released a statement giving insight into his frame of mind:
“He [Erik ten Hag] outlined his reasons to me and whilst I’m personally extremely disappointed, I will continue to give my all every time I wear the shirt.”
The 30-year-old’s statement hinted it was not his choice to relinquish the armband, with his wife taking to social media with a brief but telling statement to back him, as seen on CaughtOffside.com.
“Forever proud of you & with you every step of the way,” Hawkins stated on Instagram after reposting the centre-back’s initial post.
Maguire joined Man United for £80 million from Leicester City in 2019 but has failed to hit the ground running at Old Trafford. He is always victim to banter from fans, who have developed a keen eye for his mistakes on the pitch.
Since Erik ten Hag took over at Old Trafford in the summer of 2022, the centre-back has fallen down the pecking order, especially after the signing of Lisandro Martinez.
Hawkins has been with Maguire through his struggles on the pitch, having been involved with the defender since his days at Sheffield United.

FootballAs reported by The Mirror, the couple got married last year at the Chateau de Varennes, and the WAG recently shared a cute anniversary post to celebrate her husband.
Maguire’s wife is not the only one to publicly support the former Leicester star, with Gary Neville - also a former United captain - hailing his decision to go public about his axing.
