- McCarthy was hired by Erik ten Hag as the first-team forwards manager after his time with AmaZulu
- Alejandro Garnacho, Victor Lindelof, and others were all excited to see Benni when training resumed
Benni McCarthy is a much-loved figure, not just in South Africa.
The former AmaZulu manager is now making an impact at Manchester United and the players clearly love him.
McCarthy recently shared a video of his return to training with the English Premier League side, and some of the players can be seen warmly embracing the former Bafana Bafana striker.
The South African, who is a first-team coach for the forwards, can be seen enjoying a heartwarming moment with Alejandro Garnacho, Victor Lindelof, Diogo Dalot, Anthony Elanga, and Facundo Pellistri before they start training.
When did McCarthy join United?
McCarthy was brought in as a first-team coach after Erik ten Hag was appointed as the new head manager of the Red Devils.
As noted by News24, the ex-AmaZulu coach described the moment when he received the call from the United boss:
“When Rob Moore [McCarthy's representative] told me that Erik ten Hag wanted to see me and speak to me, I got a bit of a lump in my throat. Ten Hag asked me to come to a training session and assess his attacking options and said he wanted to bring someone on board who knows what they are doing,” McCarthy explained.
Zungu would fire Benni again
Despite his success with the English side, AmaZulu owner, Sandile Zungu, has no regrets about letting him go from the KwaZulu-Natal side.
As noted by Goal, Zungu plainly stated he would fire McCarthy again under the same circumstances, seemingly no matter what the coach has achieved in the Premier League.
