- Ilkay Gundogan was recently unveiled by Spanish giants Barcelona
- The midfielder revealed that he turned down top clubs to sign for the Blaugrana
- The marquee midfielder effortlessly crushed the kick-ups during his presentation
Ilkay Gundogan, who recently completed his move to Spanish club Barcelona, has garnered considerable attention during his unveiling.
The German international, who just led Manchester City to a historic treble, made the switch to the Spanish capital, fulfilling a lifelong ambition.
Marca reports that the midfielder has joined the club on a two-year contract, following a glittering seven-year spell at Manchester City that saw him win five Premier League titles, amongst other trophies.
Asides from the glitz and glamour and the cheer and celebrations, it was the kick-ups from Gundogan that caught the eyes of many.
In a video posted by Goal, the 32-year-old effortlessly juggled the ball during his presentation. His actions have led to fans reminiscing about some weird and horrible player unveilings.
Top players fail at unveilings
Unlike Gundogan, many players, including Barcelona’s French forward, Ousmane Dembele and AC Milan’s left-back, Theo Hernandez, performed badly at their unveilings. Though failing at kick-ups comes with little consequences, fans sometimes use these few seconds of ball juggling as a yardstick to measure their expectations of the player.
Some of the players who failed at kick-ups during their unveilings include:
Marco Perez | Real Zaragoza
Theo Hernandez | Real Madrid
Ousmane Dembele | Barcelona
Marcelo Sosa | Atletico Madrid
Roberto Soldado | Villarreal
Martin Brathwaite | Barcelona
Gundogan, during his time with the media at the unveiling, also named his idols in football. The midfielder named the likes of Ronaldinho, Xavi, Andres Iniesta, and Sergio Busquets as his idols in the game.
Ilkay Gundogan could depart Barcelona
Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Ilkay Gundogan joined La Liga champions, Barcelona, on a free transfer after capturing a European treble in his final year at the Etihad Stadium.
The former Manchester City captain has also secured a reported £7.7 million insurance policy, should Barcelona’s financial troubles stop him from playing this season.
