  • Lionel Messi is believed to have unfollowed Paris Saint-German only weeks after leaving the club
  • The veteran did not have the best of times in the French capital and opted not to renew with them
  • Messi only follows five football clubs on Instagram with his former clubs among those exalted few

Lionel Messi reportedly unfollowed Paris Saint-Germain after an unceremonious exit from the club at the end of last season.

The veteran left the French giants on a free transfer after an underwhelming two-year spell that saw him get booed by the club's supporters.

Messi has since joined Inter Miami in the MLS, where he was unveiled before a packed crowd at the DRV PNK Stadium on July 16.

A quick spot-check on his Instagram shows that he no longer follows PSG. It is not understood if he actually followed them when he joined in 2021, with many fans assuming he did.

The seven-time Ballon d'Or winner, who is one of the most followed people on the app with 484-million fans, only follows 283 people in return.

Which teams does Messi follow?

Of the 283, the Argentine follows his former clubs - Barcelona and Newell Old Boys - and recently followed his new club, Inter Miami. He also follows Premier League sides, Chelsea and Manchester City.

While the reasoning behind the first three is understandable, many fans do not understand why he follows the two EPL clubs. However, he has been previously linked with both of them, as reported by Sport Bible.

The 36-year-old is in line to make his debut on Friday when Inter Miami play Cruz Azul in the League's Cup.

Inter Miami gain 1mil followers

Meanwhile, Sports Brief reported that the off-field impact of Lionel Messi's signing with Inter Miami CF has been instantaneous and massive.

Now that he has decided to play in the MLS, American football fans will be able to watch the 36-year-old in the final years of his notable career.

Inter Miami had 1 million followers on social media prior to Messi signing up and gained over a million followers after he was announced.
