Chelsea are reportedly eyeing a stunning summer move for embattled Man United defender Harry Maguire.
Maguire is understood to be facing an uncertain future with United after Erik ten Hag axed him as the club captain.
According to Goal, the England international was informed he will not be retaining the armband from next season on Sunday after dropping down the pecking order.
The development was confirmed by Maguire on Sunday, July 16, with the centre-back revealing the decision was made after a discussion with the manager.
“After discussions with the manager today he has informed me he is changing captain," the centre-back disclosed.
“I will always be grateful to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer for first giving me the responsibility and I wish whoever now takes it on every success and they will have my full support," he added.
Chelsea keen on Maguire
Maguire is now said to be furious with the decision taken by Ten Hag, with the former Leicester City defender reportedly ready to quit Man United this summer.
The Sun reports that Chelsea are among the Premier League clubs eyeing a sensational summer move for the Englishman.
The Blues are keen to reinforce their squad in the coming weeks after Mauricio Pochettino oversaw a squad overhaul that has seen at least 25 players leave the club.
Chelsea will face competition from a number of clubs in their attempt to land Maguire, with West Ham United, Tottenham Hotspur, and Newcastle also linked.
Maguire has spent close to three years at Old Trafford, having joined United in the summer of 2019.
