  • Man United are keen to sign a new goalkeeper after the exit of David de Gea
  • Andre Onana is understood to be the Red Devils' top priority, with the Cameroonian close to making a switch
  • Reports claim the Cameroonian will pen a five-year contract at Old Trafford upon his arrival

Inter Milan goalkeeper Andre Onana is close to sealing his much-anticipated summer move to Manchester United.

Onana is understood to be United's no.1 target as they hunt for a replacement for David de Gea, who recently quit the club.

De Gea, who had spent more than a decade at Old Trafford, was released upon the expiry of his contract with the Red Devils.

According to Sky Sports, United and Inter have been working on a compromise that would see Onana reunite with Erik ten Hag at the Theatre of Dreams.

The publication claims that the Premier League giants opening bid for Onana totalled £38.5m but Inter value the Cameroonian at £51m.

Onana flies to England

However, it now appears Onana is close to completing his move to Manchester United after he reportedly jetted to England to seal the deal.

The Mirror reports that the 27-year-old has since received a call from Ten Hag urging him to join the EPL side.

It is understood that the former Ajax keeper is set to sign a five-year contract after receiving assurances from Dutchman that the deal was on track to being completed.

Onana's imminent arrival comes at a time United had been linked with moves for Diogo Costa and David Raya of Brentford.

The signing of the Cameroonian could spell doom on Dean Henderson's future at United, with Englishman back at the club after his loan spell away.

Ten Hag confirms academy goalie option

Earlier, Sports Brief had reported how Manchester United could be forced to look inwards for an alternative if they cannot sign goalkeeper, Andre Onana from Inter Milan this summer.

Onana remains Manchester United's priority target in goal as Erik ten Hag hopes to secure a ball-playing goalie who would help his style of playing out from the back.

Former goalkeeper David De Gea, who was heavily criticized for his lack of footwork, announced his departure from the club on Saturday after 12 years after becoming a free agent on June 30.
