FootballRomelu Lukaku: How Inter’s Decision to Pull Plug on Transfer Talks Could Benefit Arsenal
- Inter Milan have reportedly pulled the plug on talks to sign Romelu Lukaku
- This leaves the Belgian’s future up in the air, as he is set to make a return to his parent club Chelsea
- Chelsea were keen on selling him to the Nerazzuri, but Inter were left angered after learning of secret talks with Juventus
Arsenal could be the beneficiary to the latest drama surrounding Romelu Lukaku after Inter reportedly pulled the plug on talks to sign the Belgian.
Lukaku spent last season with the Italian side but could not reciprocate his superb form in his first spell with the club due to injuries which plagued his campaign.
The 30-year-old played 25 times for Inter last season, getting 10 goals in the process.
Despite having a deal with Chelsea that runs until 2026, Lukaku does not appear to have a future at Stamford Bridge, as the club was keen on seeing Inter acquire him permanently.
Inter director Piero Ausillio confirmed earlier this month of the club’s intentions to sign Lukaku, but all that appears to have changed, according to football insider Fabrizio Romano.
Romano announced on Saturday, July 15 that Inter cut talks with the striker after it emerged that Lukaku was flirting with the idea of joining Juventus, a club he previously vowed never to join.
“Lukaku shocked Inter and left them furious when they discovered the people close to him were also negotiating with Juventus. Inter did their best for Lukaku in a difficult career, re-signing him from Chelsea for a big loan fee and paying his big salary, and doing their best to support him when he was injured.” Romano wrote on his column on Caught Offside.
How Arsenal could benefit
Despite Inter set to end their romance with Lukaku, the club is still in the market for a striker, and this is where Arsenal could come in.

Rice names favourite Arsenal player
Sports Brief also reported on Declan Rice’s pick of the player he has a connection with at Arsenal.
The England international officially sealed his move to the north London club on Saturday, July 15, ending weeks of speculation that surrounded his future with West Ham.
Apparently, Rice will be in good company at the Emirates after he disclosed that he has a crazy connection with youngster Eddie Nketiah.
