Barcelona are reported to have sealed the signature of the former Chelsea midfielder who is believed to be the ideal replacement for former Captain Sergio Busquets.
Having already signed Ilkay Gundogan, Inigo Martinez and Brazilian teenage sensation Vitor Roque, Barcelona are reported to have completed the signing of Oriol Romeu.
The deal for the 31-year-old Girona midfielder is reported to be closed and subject to an official announcement according to reports from Cadena SER reporter Nil Sola. The deal is set to be announced by both clubs on Monday.
Xavi keen on signing Romeu
As reported by Barcelona Universal, the signing of the Girona midfielder comes as a huge relief for Barcelona coach Xavi Hernandez, who is reported to be of intent on closing the deal for the midfielder before his club jets off to the USA for their pre-season tour.
Romeu’s wealth of experience, coupled with his familiarity with the Barcelona ideologies –as he is a graduate of La Masia would come him handy as per his adaptation to the culture at Barcelona.
This is not disputing the fact the Spanish midfielder would need time to get on the same frequency as his new teammates and the pre-season tour appears the perfect fit for the former Chelsea man to adjust and absorb into the system wholesomely.
Barcelona are set to face Juventus, Arsenal, Real Madrid, and AC Milan during their tour in the United States.
The calibre of player Romeu is will provide the needed physicality and steel – in the model of Jordan Henderson the La Liga champions currently need to weather the hurdle and financial difficulties they are currently faced with.
