  • A video of an awkward Mason Mount meeting with fans went viral on Thursday
  • In the video, Mount refuses to engage fans who wanted their shirts signed
  • Manchester United have since released a statement backing their new midfielder

Manchester United have come out to back their new signing Mason Mount following a video of the midfielder refusing to sign fans’ shirts.

The video, which has gone viral on Tiktok and Twitter, shows Mount getting hounded by two fans at night, but the 24-year-old politely declined and walked away.

There have since been mixed reactions on social media, with some fans saying the former Chelsea man was justified to walk away for his own safety.

United have since commented on the incident with an interesting statement as they branded the two individuals in the video as “professional autograph hunters”.

The club also condemned the two fans’ actions on Mount while highlighting the issue of fans harassing players as a major one at the Carrington training grounds.

“Unfortunately this kind of situation has become far too common. It's the last thing Mason deserves after being so friendly with everyone he has come across since joining United.” A statement from the club read, as seen on The Mirror.
“Professional autograph hunters are regularly pressuring United's players to sign large quantities of items that that they then sell for hundreds of pounds.

What happened in the video?

As reported on Sports Brief, the fans were insistent on having Mount sign their shirts, but the midfielder was unwilling to.

Instead of walking away, the fans in question persisted, prompting Mount to say, “I haven’t signed anything for the last three days so I don’t know why you keep coming back.”

The video then cuts off, but it is almost certain Mount did not engage the fans further.

This came just days after Mount made his debut in a Manchester United shirt as the Red Devils beat Leeds United in a friendly.

The England international did not have the best of games, but Ten Hag backed his performances, tipping him to find his form at Old Trafford.

“He is a complete midfield player. He has some areas he has to work on but, in general, he's a very good player who suits us and can help us achieve our goals. He was great, but we all expected this from him.” Ten Hag said.
