The Spanish giants have been in financial turmoil in the last few years, something which does not seem to go away.
They will have to pay a fine of €500,000 as they try and navigate a difficult financial period for the club. UEFA statement read:
“FC Barcelona (ESP) was imposed a fine of €500,000 for wrongly reporting, in the financial year 2022, profits on disposal of intangible assets (other than player transfers) which are not a relevant income under the regulations.”
UEFA revealed the news following a "monitoring" period in the 2022/23 season, which covered 2019-2022. The penalties were based on UEFA's previous rules since new regulations come into effect next season, p[er the Athletic.
Manchester United, Porto, and Anderlecht were other clubs fined by UEFA.
FFP was established to prevent clubs from spending more than they earn. The regulations were implemented to stop clubs from getting into debt and risking their long-term futures.
Barca FFP problems
In January, Barcelona were fined €800,000 for breaching La Liga's FFP rules in relation to three deals handed out by the club.
The fine is related to the signings of free agents Dani Alves and Andreas Christensen alongside the contract renewal of Ronald Araujo. The fines were based on the 2021/22 financial year, per Mirror.
Despite being in financial turmoil, the club signed several players because of 'economic levers.' Robert Lewandowski, Ferran Torres, Raphinha, Christensen, Marcos Alonso, Hector Bellerin, Franck Kessie, and Jules Kounde arrived at Camp Nou last year.
