Former Nigerian international, Emmanuel Babayaro has explained that the Super Eagles have what it takes to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup after being drawn in Group C on Thursday evening, July 14.

The race for the next Championship will start soon, and this time around, the three-time African champions will go into battle against South Africa, Benin Republic, Lesotho, Zimbabwe, and Rwanda.

According to reports on Complete Sports and Daily Post, Babayaro disclosed that some factors may stop the Super Eagles in the race for the qualification.

Babayaro on the Super Eagles

"On paper, you would say we have already qualified and that’s how it’s supposed to be because Nigeria is one of the most powerful nations in the world as far as football is concerned.
"On a good day, I should say we have already qualified, but we need to do the right thing. Unfortunately, we don’t have the best technical hands at the moment and we’ve been suffering from that for a while now and that might just be the Achilles heel. But on paper, we should be able to qualify."

SA, Nigeria to renew rivalry

Earlier, Sports Brief had reported how South Africa and Nigeria will continue their rivalry on the football field in a bid to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Bafana Bafana and the Super Eagles were drawn together in Group C for the upcoming CAF qualifiers.

With the 2026 World Cup featuring 48 teams for the first time, Africa will be represented by nine sides.

Those nine teams will qualify for the World Cup by topping their groups in the upcoming qualifiers. The African qualifiers feature nine groups of six teams, all vying for the automatic spots.
