Taiwo Awoniyi has stated emphatically that the Super Eagles of Nigeria have the right mentality to win the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, scheduled for Ivory Coast next year.
With one game remaining for Nigeria in the qualifiers, Jose Peseiro and his wards have already qualified for the main tournament after beating Sierra Leone 3-2 in their last game in Liberia.
The last time the Super Eagles won the AFCON title was in 2013 in South Africa, when the team under the late Stephen Keshi triumphed against all odds.
At the last edition of the competition in Cameroon, Nigeria crashed out in the knockout stages after a surprise loss to Tunisia.
According to the reports by Complete Sports and Daily Post, Awoniyi explained it was time again for the Super Eagles to conquer Africa.
Awoniyi: Nigeria will win AFCON
The former Liverpool striker said the intention for Nigeria's national team was to head to Ivory Coast and win the trophy this time around.
"I think everyone in the squad is happy; the first stage is to qualify for the AFCON which we did already, then the next stage now is just to try everything possible to win the AFCON, which is the target for the country."
“The last one was an experience, I was there and we are happy we are there again," he added.
Awoniyi worked as a bricklayer
