- Manchester United are struggling to find new suitors for the centreback due to his high wages
Harry Maguire has reportedly scaled up his training sessions as he seeks to fight for his place in the Manchester United team.
Maguire was a regular starter before the arrival of Erik ten Hag last summer. However, the arrival of Lisandro Martinez saw the England international fall out of contention, featuring only a couple of times across all competitions last season.
There have been speculations that he might be moved on to allow for the purchase of new targets. However, he recently received a pay rise, making it near impossible to find suitors who will match his wages.
Maguire himself has been categorical in the past on his intentions to wrestle for a starting berth under ten Hag. He is now seemingly walking the talk after he was spotted having some sessions with legendary midfielder Ricardo Carvalho in Portugal.
Daily Mail reports that the 30-year-old has been having up to three sessions a day. The intense sessions have been going on for almost three weeks before he joins the rest of the Red Devils staff for pre-season training.
Carvalho was a celebrated defender during his days. He won the UEFA best defender of the 2003/2004 season and further made his name with illustrious spells at Chelsea and Real Madrid, as quoted by Transfermarkt.
Maguire to lose captaincy
This comes amid news that ten Hag has reportedly made the decision to axe Harry Maguire as Manchester United's captain.
Maguire has skippered United for more than two years now, having been appointed to the role in January 2020 by former boss Ole Gunnar Solskajer. He was handed the captain's armband after captaining the Red Devils on 12 occasions.
