  • Paris Saint-Germain have confirmed another big-money signing
  • The French giants have signed Manuel Ugarte from Sporting Lisbon, and he is one of the most expensive signings in the club's history
  • The French champions have two of the most expensive players in the game's history in their squad

When Qatar Sports Investments bought Paris Saint-Germain in 2011, many predicted the underachieving side would dominate French football and perhaps the UEFA Champions League. It's been over 10 years of QSI ownership, and the team has evolved.

They've signed plenty of players over the years, including generational superstars like Kylian Mbappe, Lionel Messi, and Neymar.

They are yet to conquer Europe, but it's only a matter of time before they win it, after all, it took Manchester City 15 years to win the European Cup.

PSG signed Neymar in 2017 for a record-breaking 222 million euros. It was a transfer that completely changed the industry. The Ligue 1 champions recently signed midfielder, Manuel Ugarte from Sporting Lisbon for a reported 60 million euros. The Uruguayan joins a long list of expensive signings that have signed for the French giants.

So where does Ugarte rank among the club's most expensive signings? Sports Brief takes a look.

PSG's 10 most expensive signings

10. Javier Pastore

Pastore was the first signing in the QSI era. The Argentine joined from Serie A side Palermo for a fee of 42 million euros. He played seven seasons for PSG and scored 45 goals, and contributed 57 assists in 269 games. He won five Ligue 1 titles with the club but left in 2018 to join AS Roma.

9. Thiago Silva

The Brazilian center-back joined PSG in 2012 for 42 million euros. His performances for the club saw him become one of the best defenders of his generation, and he is still going strong at 38. He spent eight years in the French capital, winning seven Ligue 1 titles.

8. David Luiz

Luiz joined PSG from Chelsea in 2014 for 49.5 million euros. He later returned to the English giants in 2016. Luiz made 89 appearances for PSG and won two league titles in France.

7. Mauro Icardi

The Argentine joined the Ligue 1 champions in 2019 on loan, but PSG paid Inter Milan 50 million euros in June 2020 to make the move permanent. In his brief spell with the club, the Argentine striker made 92 appearances and scored 38 goals. He won two league titles in France and now plies his trade in Turkey with Galatasaray.

6. Manuel Ugarte

Ugarte is the latest signing for PSG and joined for a reported 60 million euros from Portuguese giants Sporting Lisbon, per Transfermarkt. The 22-year-old is expected to be a key piece for PSG as they chase the elusive Champions League title.

5. Angel Di Maria

Di Maria spent one turbulent season in England with Manchester United but was quickly sold to PSG for 63 million euros. The 2022 World Cup winner left the club in May 2022 after seven seasons. In 295 appearances with the club, he scored 93 goals and contributed 119 assists. He also won five Ligue 1 titles.

4. Edinson Cavani

Cavani was one of the best strikers of his generation. After tearing up the Serie A for several seasons with Napoli, he joined PSG in 2013 for 64.5 million euros and went on to become the club's record scorer with 200 goals in 301 appearances. Kylian Mbappe recently surpassed him in the all-time scoring chart.

3. Achraf Hakimi

Hakimi is one of the best right-backs in the world. He signed for PSG in 2021 for 68 million euros. He has played 80 games so far and provided 12 assists. He is expected to be a key player for the club in the coming years.

2. Kylian Mbappe

The French superstar joined the French giants in 2017 from Monaco on an initial season-long loan deal before signing a permanent deal. The fee was around 180 million euros. It is the second most expensive transfer of all time. His list of accolades is endless. At 24, he has already won the World Cup and is a 6-time Ligue 1 champion. He is also a 3-time France Footballer of the Year and is the club's all-time top scorer with 212 goals in 260 appearances. PSG have gotten value for their money even if he leaves the club soon.

1. Neymar Jr.

Neymar is the most expensive footballer of all time. He joined the club in 2017 from Barcelona for a world-record fee of 222 million euros. The 31-year-old's time in Paris has been turbulent. Many have accused him of lacking the consistency a player of his quality should show. In his six seasons with the club, he has made 173 appearances and scored 118 goals whilst providing 77 assists. He has won five Ligue 1 titles with the club.

Mbappe removed from PSG poster

Sports Brief earlier reported on the future of Kylian Mbappe being uncertain, with every word or action he makes being deeply scrutinized.

The latest twist in the tale is the Frenchman not featuring in Paris Saint-Germain's poster for their upcoming friendly against Cristiano Ronaldo's Al-Nassr in Japan on July 25.

Mbappe's face was formerly the main feature of the promotional material published by the Parisians. However, it seems he has now been removed.
