FootballJuventus Could Be Excluded from 2023/24 Europa Conference League After Agreement with UEFA
- Juventus will likely not play in the Europa Conference League next season
- The Old Lady have reportedly agreed with UEFA to be excluded from the competition
- This is an attempt by Juventus to minimize the effects of the sanctions imposed on the club due to a 'Capital Gains Case'
Juventus have reportedly agreed to forego any participation in European competitions in the 2023/24 season due to off-field issues relating to financial fair play.
The Bianconeri had a turbulent 2022/23 season, which saw them docked 10 points in May following an investigation into the club’s transfer dealings.
Several members of the Juventus board resigned in the wake of the points deduction, but the club eventually managed to finish the season in a Europa Conference League place.
Despite their seventh-place finish, however, fans will not see Juventus in the fairly new competition, according to Marca.
The club has agreed with UEFA that they will not participate in Europe next season to avoid any further punishment over financial fair play.
Corriere dello Sport further reports that dropping out of the Europa Conference League boosts Juventus’ chances of avoiding further sanctions which would otherwise place the club at risk of more bans in the event they qualify for the 2024/25 Champions League.
How Juventus fared last season
The 2022/23 season was one to forget for Juventus due to the club’s issues both on and off the field.
In the Champions League, The Old Lady lost five of their six group games and were eventually relegated to the Europa League, where they somehow made it to the semis, only to be dumped out by eventual winners Sevilla.
Despite some decent performances domestically, Juventus could only manage a seventh-place finish after getting docked 10 points.
Cuadrado: Cristiano ‘doesn’t want me’
Szoboszlai joins Liverpool in 70-million-euro deal
FootballSports Brief also reported on Juan Cuadrado’s interesting sentiments as the Colombian suggested Cristiano Ronaldo does not want him in Saudi Arabia.
The former Chelsea star, 35, is currently a free agent after failing to agree a new deal with Juventus after his contract ran out last week.
He was asked about his future and his response was interesting as he suggested Ronaldo’s presence in the Middle East would make it difficult for him to move there.
