Erik ten Hag has reportedly made the decision to axe Harry Maguire as Manchester United's captain.
Maguire has skippered United for more than two years now, having been appointed to the role in January 2020 by former boss, Ole Gunnar Solskajer.
According to Metro UK, Maguire was handed the captain's armband after captaining the Red Devils on 12 occasions.
However, the England international could lose the captaincy in the coming days, with ten Hag keen to find his permanent replacement.
The development comes at a time when the former Leicester City centre-back is staring at an uncertain future at Old Trafford.
Ten Hag to replace Maguire
Talksport reports that ten Hag had previously reassured Maguire of his position as United's captain. However, the publication claims the Dutchman looks set to rescind the decision as he wants to replace the Englishman - regardless of whether he stays at Old Trafford beyond this summer or not.
It is believed the Red Devils boss has since settled on midfielder, Bruno Fernandes, as the club's next captain. However, the former Ajax manager will reportedly consult the squad before he makes the final decision.
Fernandes has been captaining United in the absence of Maguire, with the Portuguese wearing the armband in 2022/23, leading his side to Carabao Cup glory and the FA Cup final.
