Football fans could not help but call out the irony in the Mbappe-PSG saga after the 24-year old superstar went on record to slam the club.

Mbappe, PSG’s all-time goal scorer, has made it clear he will not sign a new deal, with his current contract expiring in 2024.

Paris St-Germain chairman Nasser Al-Khelaifi publicly declared Mbappe would not leave the club for free, but it appears the player has the upper hand in this situation.

What Mbappe said in the interview

In an interview with France Football Magazine, cited on BBC, Mbappe did not hold back in his criticism of PSG bosses as he faulted them for the club’s shortcomings, especially in the Champions League.

"I think that playing for PSG doesn't help much because it's a divisive team, a divisive club," Mbappe reportedly said.
"We did what we could [in the Champions League], period. You have to talk to the people who make the team, who organise the squad, who build this club."

According to RMC Sport, Nasser Al-Khelaifi responded to Mbappe’s interview by questioning why the forward is yet to leave the club if the situation is that bad at the moment

Amid the unfolding saga, fans with long memories could not help but point out PSG’s misgivings that could have possibly led the club to the predicament they find themselves in.

Last year, Mbappe turned down Real Madrid’s advances as he signed a new contract with PSG, in a move that angered Los Blancos chiefs who were almost certain he would join them.

A year later, however, it is the Real Madrid bosses who will be laughing at PSG over their current saga involving Mbappe,

Here are some reactions from fans:

“What did psg not do for him, the main player of the project even though other than the orld cup his career hasn't been in highlight much, and even gets paid more than Messi,” one fan said.
“I am loving this saga. We all knew it would end badly when both parties threw money into a problem fueled by passion, dream, and desire,” another added.
“I am so so happy… they(PSG and its Ultras) disrespected Neymar and Messi while Mbappe was their beloved and best player, they were only praising him. I just love to see it.”
“If Mbappe came last year this relationship would be good but now it will become dirty for sure,” another user observed.

Mbappe missing from PSG poster

Sports Brief also reported on how Kylian Mbappe is missing from PSG’s poster ahead of a clash against Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al Nassr in pre-season.

As reported by Madrid Xtra, Mbappe's face was the main feature of the promotional material published by the Parisians. But now, it seems that he has now been removed.

This comes amid reports that six Paris Saint-Germain players have reportedly voiced concerns to President Nasser Al-Khelaifi about remarks made by Kylian Mbappe during the media interview.
