Mbappe Gives Honest Assessment of Club Future: 'Playing for PSG Doesn’t Help a Lot'

Kylian Mbappe is of the opinion that the criticism he has received through his career is aggravated by his association with Paris Saint-Germain.

Mbappe who recently received the award for the best French player of the 2022/23 season, presented by L'Equipe and France Football, discussed his last season, explained his feelings and showed his ambition to always win.

Speaking to France Football Mbappe said:

"Reasons to believe that this is my last season in Ligue 1? It's very simple, I'm a competitor and, when I play, it's to win," he noted.

"And no matter who I play with, no matter my shirt I'm wearing, no matter where, no matter the year, I never settle. "I go on vacation, I do a reset, I recover my energy and I come back with the hunger that everyone knows.

The Frenchman admitted he was 'always dissatisfied' and was 'never impressed' with what he does, constantly telling himself he can do it again - and better.

"I have this hunger to win. I don't want to be on a team just to participate. That's why sometimes people think I'm arrogant. I'm not afraid of failure either, it's part of a footballer's career. But I have the deep conviction that I was born to win and I want to show that to everyone."

Mbappe also discussed his current team, PSG, and the still-unfulfilled desire to win the Champions League.

"I don't know what PSG need to do to win the Champions League, it's not a question for me. You have to talk to the people who make the team, who organise the squad, who build this club. I just try to do my job the best I can."

The superstar mentioned being the best player and top scorer in Ligue 1 for the fifth consecutive year.

"A lot of things make me proud. First, to have continued to win titles, which is what we play for. No matter what the title, it's the most difficult thing, that's what all the players fight for."

He added: "And, of course, I'm delighted to have maintained my personal level, with a season of around 50 goals. I had outstanding moments, outstanding performances, although I think I could still do better."

Mbappe considers that playing in Ligue 1, a league that does not attract the interest of fans around the world as much as perhaps the Premier League or LaLiga, does not help him in the voting for the Ballon d'Or, but he hopes to win it one day.

"Do people trivialize my performances? Yes, but at the same time I don't blame them," he noted.

"In France, people have seen me grow up, they see me all the time, at PSG every weekend or with the national team.

"And I've been scoring a lot of goals for years. So, for people, it's becoming normal. I've never complained about my performances being trivialized.

"I'm young and I was lucky enough to be an observer, not long ago, before I became an actor.

"And I myself trivialized what [Lionel] Messi did, what Cristiano Ronaldo did, what the great players did.

"We live in a consumer society, where the emphasis is on 'that's good, but do it again'.

"I think playing for PSG doesn't help a lot, because they are a team that divide, a club that divide.

"So, of course, that attracts gossip, but I don't care because I know what I do and how I do it."

Sports Brief previously reported Mbappe has been warned by PSG that they may be forced to offload key players if he tries to move to Real Madrid on a free transfer next summer.

Mbappe sent a letter to PSG last month stating he had no intention of extending his contract, which expires in 2024, meaning he could leave for free next summer - a situation club president Nasser Al-Khelaifi is desperate to avoid.
