It was an awkward moment that quickly went viral on social media. The 18-year-old was signed from Turkish giants Fenerbahce in a deal reportedly around 20m euros.

Perez called his name and then appeared to ask guests in the room to clap for the youngster. However, Guler apparently thought Perez was done with his speech but was mistaken.

Why did Madrid sign Guler?

The simplest reason why the European giants signed the young forward is he was reportedly drawing a lot of interest from rivals like Arsenal, Manchester United, and Newcastle United, Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich and French giants Paris St-Germain.

Moreover, he scored four goals and supplied four assists last season in the Turkish Super Lig, per Transfermarkt. He also produced an outstanding performance in the Turkish Cup final.
