Manchester United are reportedly close to agreeing a deal to sign Japanese goalkeeper Zion Suzuki. The club is ready to move in for the 20-year-old goalkeeper who they have been watching since 2017.
Suzuki currently plies his professional trade with Urawa Red Diamonds and could be Manchester United's second signing of the summer after Mason Mount's arrival.
Daily Mail reports that the Red Devils will fork out a fee of 5 million euros, which could make Suzuki the most expensive purchase ever in the history of the Japanese league.
The news comes at a time when Erik ten Hag is actively looking for a new goalkeeper following the completion of David de Gea's contract. The two parties are yet to agree to terms of a new deal even as United players start to troop back for pre-season training.
As it is technically impossible for Suzuki to waltz in and become ten Hag's first choice for the new season, the club continues to be linked with Champions League finalist Andre Onana.
Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano has indicated several times that United are keen on signing the Inter Milan goalkeeper, having already agreed on personal terms with him.
Suzuki has already played for Japan in youth games but is yet to make an appearance for the senior squad.
United's two-man goalkeeper shortlist
Sports Brief had also reported that Manchester United have reportedly come up with a new goalkeeper shortlist after it emerged that priority target Andre Onana might be too costly.
