Crowds were everywhere as French international forward Kylian Mbappe landed in Cameroon for his first visit to his father’s country.
The 2018 FIFA World Cup winner was born in Paris to a Cameroonian father, Wilfried, and an Algerian mother, and he once attempted to play for the African nation.
Several activities have been lined up for the forward as he is scheduled to tour a school for the deaf and hearing impaired.
African News reports that the school, located in the suburbs of the Cameroonian capital of Yaounde, was refurbished with funds provided by Mbappé's charity ‘Inspired By KM’.
The 24-year-old will also take time to feature in a basketball match and then a football match with a local club.
He will visit the village of his father on Saturday.
Why Mbappe dumped Cameroon for France
Mbappe’s dad, Wilfred, once disclosed that he had wanted his son to play for Cameroon, but some officials requested money.
His father said, as per Yahoo:
“At first, I wanted my son to play for Cameroon, but someone at the Cameroon Football Federation charged a sum of money that I didn’t have to make him play. The French didn’t charge anything”.
Mbappe won’t meet legendary Samuel Eto’o
Yannick Noah, president of Vent d'Etoudi, a second-division club in the country, claims the Frenchman will not meet Eto’o.
RFI reports that Noah is organising Mbappe's schedule and is reportedly not on the best of terms with Eto'o.
The former tennis ace, who remains one of France's most popular public figures, is also the founder of Village Noah – a tourism and leisure centre in the Etoudi district where Mbappé will be staying.
