Arsenal, who have already snapped up Kai Havertz from Chelsea, are keen to strengthen their squad in preparation for next season.

Granit Xhaka set for Arsenal exit

Rice's imminent arrival looks set to coincide with the exit of Xhaka.

The Athletic reports that the Swiss midfielder is set to join Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen in a £21.5m transfer deal.

Multiple reports indicate the former Arsenal captain's switch to Leverkusen is all but done, with transfer guru Fabrizio Romano claiming Xhaka will pen a five-year deal at the club.

"Granit Xhaka to Bayer Leverkusen, here we go! Agreement reached in May now being signed between clubs — green light arrived after Rice deal done," Fabrizio tweeted.

The Switzerland international has spent more than six years at the Emirates Stadium, having joined the Gunners back in 2016 from Borussia Monchengladbach.
