  • Emmanuel Petit has poured cold water on Arsenal's chances of winning the Premier League next season
  • The Frenchman feels the signing top players this summer may not be enough to help them claim the title
  • The Gunners came close to winning the league last season but fell short at the hands of Manchester City

Arsenal legend, Emmanuel Petit, has boldly claimed the Gunners do not stand a chance of challenging Manchester City for the Premier League title next season, even with Declan Rice, Jurrien Timber, and Kai Havertz added to their ranks.

The north Londoners came close to winning the prestigious crown last season for the first time in close to two decades.

Despite dominating the standings for the better part of the campaign, the Emirates Stadium dwellers were beaten to the crown by Man City in the closing stages of the campaign.

Arsenal's encouraging finish from last season has seen the club embark on a busy transfer window, with Mikel Arteta keen to strengthen his squad ahead of next season.

The Spanish boss has already acquired the services of Kai Havertz from Chelsea, with Timber and Rice among the other players who could sign for him in the coming days, per The Mirror.

Petit rates Arsenal's EPL chances

Despite the likelihood of Arteta landing his key transfer targets, Petit has claimed he does not see Arsenal challenging Man City for the Premier League title.

Whereas the France legend contends Rice would be a good signing for his former club, he claimed the Gunners lack the strength in squad depth to compete against City for the domestic title.

"...They’ve got to bring in more players if they want to compete for the title, or at least, reduce the gap with Manchester City," Petit told SPORTbible, courtesy of DAZN Bet.
"Spending £200 million to increase the quality of your team is one thing, but is it enough for Arsenal to compete with Manchester City right now? I think they’re still short."

Is selling Partey a mistake?

Earlier, Sports Brief analysed why Arsenal selling Thomas Partey this summer would be a grave mistake by the Premier League runners-up.

Despite his growth on the field, the club are reportedly willing to listen to offers for their midfield stalwart as they inch closer to Declan Rice.
