Players of Enyimba Football Club of Aba have been rewarded with the sum of N20 million by Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, for winning the 2022/23 Nigerian Premier League (NPL) title.
The Peoples' Elephant claimed a historic ninth domestic title at the NPL Super Six playoffs in Lagos last month, fending off competition from the likes of Remo Stars, Rivers United, Sunshine Stars, and Plateau United.
It was also an incredible season for Enyimba FC head coach, Finidi George, who is a former Super Eagles forward.
According to the reports by Complete Sports and Daily Post, the former chairman of the club Felix Anyansi, Finidi George, and other backroom staff will also be rewarded by the State Governor in due course.
Enyimba coach grateful for reward
Sports Brief spoke exclusively with Enyimba FC assistant coach, Yemi Olanrewaju, who expressed happiness over Governor Otti's gesture towards the deserving players.
"The players deserve everything because they gave their best to make sure that we won the title and we, the coaches, are proud of them all. Also, special thanks to the Governor for his gesture."
Winning the NPL title also means the Aba-based side will compete in this year's CAF Champions League. They will also be moving to Lagos this week for the Naija Super 8 tournament.
Kanu Nwankwo linked with Enyimba
Meanwhile, Sports Brief reported on Arsenal legend, Kanu Nwankwo possibly being named Enyimba chairman as the club continues to bask in glory after winning the league.
The board of the People's Elephant was reportedly dissolved by the Abia State Government last week, with the former Premier League winner earmarked for the position.
Football administrator, Felix Anyansi-Agwu, was in charge of the Aba-based team for over 23 years, seeing the club win nine NPL titles and two CAF Champions League titles.
