Mauricio Pochettino boldly claimed in his first interview as Chelsea's new head coach that he was joining the greatest team in England in the last 15 years.

Pochettino arrived at the Cobham facility on July 3 to begin the work of reviving a fallen giant that sunk as low as 12th position in the Premier League last season.

A great team is often measured by its success on the pitch, which generally refers to the number of trophies a team has won.

There is no denying that Chelsea have racked up a good number of trophies in Pochettino's stated period, but are they the greatest?

Sports Brief takes a look at the most successful English clubs in the last 15 years (from 2008 to the present).

6. Leicester City - 2 trophies

The Foxes rode against all odds to win the 2015/2016 Premier League title before following it up with another historic FA Cup win against Chelsea in the 2021 final.

5. Arsenal - 4 trophies

Arsenal's prowess of yesteryear has dwindled, with their last Premier League title coming in 2004. However, they do have four FA Cup titles to their name during this time.

4. Liverpool - 7 trophies

The Reds were another giant that underperformed before the appointment of Jurgen Klopp in 2015. The German took some time to get them firing again, but he has since won the Premier League, the UEFA Champions League, the Club World Cup, the Super Cup, the FA Cup, and the Carabao Cup to add to the League Cup triumph in 2012.

3. Manchester United - 12 trophies

It will be fair to say the Red Devils haven't quite hit the same heights they did during Sir Alex Ferguson's reign. In the last five years of his tenure, Fergie won four EPL titles, the 2008 UCL title, the Club World Cup, and two Carabao Cups.

After his exit, the club won the Europa League, the FA Cup, and two Carabao Cups under Jose Mourinho, Louis Van Gaal, and most recently, Erik ten Hag.

2. Chelsea - 14 trophies

The Blues are only second on the list, thus debunking Pochettino's claim. Since 2008, the club has won three EPL titles, four FA Cups, two UCL titles, two Europa League titles, the Club World Cup, the Super Cup, and a League Cup.

1. Manchester City - 17 trophies

Had Pochettino conducted his interview earlier this year, perhaps he could have been right. However, Pep Guardiola's treble triumph saw City replace Chelsea as the most successful English club over that period.

The Spanish tactician's five Premier League titles have definitely done wonders to add to Roberto Mancini's and Manuel Pellegrini's triumphs before he took over.

City have also won three FA Cups and six League Cups over that time to add to their maiden UCL title, which they could add to now that they are set to participate in the Club World Cup and the UEFA Super Cup.

Pochettino makes stylish Cobham arrival

Sports Brief also reported on Pochettino arriving at Cobham in style to officially begin work, having been held back by an exit clause in his Paris Saint-Germain deal when he was sacked.

He arrived in a Mercedes-Benz V-Class SUV along with his assistant, Jesus Perez, and his son, Sebastiano, who works as a fitness coach. Fans applauded his style on social media.
