  • Mason Mount last night confirmed his Chelsea exit in an emotional farewell video
  • The midfielder departs his boyhood club after 18 years, having joined when he was 6
  • Chelsea legend, Didier Drogba had a special message for the departing player

Chelsea legend, Didier Drogba appears to be emotional at Mason Mount’s departure with his message after the player confirmed his departure last night.

The speculation surrounding Mount’s future dragged on for months before the club reached an agreement with Manchester United for the transfer of their academy star.

There was a contract dispute between the player and the club, but with his reported transfer to Manchester United, it appears the player already had his mind set on a departure from his boyhood club.

He is expected to be unveiled as a new United player this morning after passing his medicals yesterday, as reported by Sports Brief.

Drogba's special message to Mount

Sports Brief reported that Mount bid farewell to Chelsea fans with a video last night, as he feels the fans deserve more than a written statement. It received mixed reactions from fans, but his teammates reacted emotionally, including new Arsenal star, Kai Havertz.

Drogba re-shared his farewell video on his Instagram story and said something the fans probably do not want to hear by referring to the 24-year-old as a prince.

“Another prince leaving the club of his life. Thank you and all the very best to you, champs, #oneofourowncfc,” the legend wrote.

The Ivorian is famously referred to as King at Stamford Bridge, and since the club won their second UEFA Champions League in 2021, he has referred to some of the academy stars of that era as his 'sons'.

According to Sky Sports, the former Vitesse loanee led the team in most stats since his debut in 2019, including goals, assists, and chances created, which shows his importance to the team.

Chelsea pride in Reece James

Sports Brief reported that Chelsea took pride in Reece James after the defender responded to a fan teasing a move to Arsenal for him.

The club’s Twitter was quick to brand him ‘One of our own’, aiming a dig at Arsenal and at Mount, an academy star who is joining a rival club, Manchester United.
