At the last edition of the AFCON in Cameroon, Osimhen was injured and was replaced with Taiwo Awoniyi as Nigeria crashed out in the second round after a defeat against Tunisia.

According to reports from Complete Sports and Daily Post, Osimhen explained that the Super Eagles must do well in Ivory Coast.

Osimhen confirms Super Eagles' readiness

“We have a great squad to do well, I’m proud of the team. We fight for the team because it’s a privilege to play for Nigeria. We expect greatness, we will aim for the trophy.
“We have experienced players and leaders like Ahmed Musa, Kenneth Omeruo, and Wilfred Ndidi, who have been helpful to the younger players.
“I know some of the fans have given up on us (after the Eagles failed to qualify for the 2022 World Cup), but I hope they will come back to support us.''

Osimhen meets former school teacher

Earlier, Sports Brief had reported how Nigerian international Victor Osimhen reunited with his school teacher, Augustina Atanda, who assisted in helping him become a professional footballer.

Growing up in the Olusosun area of Lagos, the forward has become one of the best strikers in world football.

He started his career with the local club Ultimate Strikers Academy and then led Nigeria to win the 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup, notching in 10 goals at the tournament.

VfL Wolfsburg then snapped him up, and after two seasons, he moved to Belgian side Charleroi.
