  • Gyan announced his retirement from football in June 2023

Former Ghana captain, Asamoah Gyan spent time with his father on his birthday as the two competed in a game of draughts.

Gyan, who recently retired from football, enjoyed the moment as his father - the birthday celebrant - challenged him in an entertaining battle.

The ex-Ghana international confessed that his father is a stubborn man after giving him a good game.

"My old boy be stubborn rough. Having fun on his birthday. Happy birthday dad. (Asase jay)," wrote the Ghana legend on Instagram.

After almost two decades of football, Gyan emotionally hung up his boots last month.

"I want to take this great opportunity, a stage that is difficult in every footballer's career, a moment all footballers do not wish, but when nature dawns, that thin voice will keep echoing into the ears... it is time... that voice has been clear in my ears, and I have succumbed to it, it is time. It is time to hand the jersey and boots in glory as I officially retire from active football," said an emotional Gyan, as quoted by Ghanasoccernet.

The 37-year-old ended his career as Ghana's all-time top scorer with 51 goals in 109 appearances.

Gyan blasts Black Meteors players

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Gyan has expressed disappointment following the Black Meteors' early exit from the Africa U-23 Cup of Nations.

The Ghana U-23 team failed to qualify for next summer's Olympic Games after a 1-1 draw against Guinea in their final Group A game.

Having finished the tournament with four points, the same as Guinea, the Black Meteors were beaten to a semi-final spot by their West African rivals on the goal difference rule.

Ghanaian MP wants Gyan studied

Honourable Frank Annor Dompreh, the Majority Chief Whip of the 8th Ghanaian Parliament, has called for the celebration of retired Black Stars striker, Asamoah Gyan.

The astute politician believes the former Ghana captain is not hailed the way he should be, drawing an analogy with how England revere David Beckham.

Gyan paid a courtesy call on the Speaker of Parliament, Honourable Alban Bagbin, where he met the Majority Whip and other members of the August House.
