  • Mauricio Pochettino officially arrived at Chelsea this morning weeks after his announcement
  • He had a tour of the training complex at Cobham and sat for his first media session
  • Pochettino highlighted the importance of the club’s winning culture and wants to uphold it

New Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino has given his first interview as new head coach after officially turning up at Cobham training facilities this morning.

The Argentine won the race to be the new boss ahead of former RB Leipzig manager Julian Nagelsmann and former Barcelona boss Luis Enrique after weeks of interviews.

Pochettino was signed to a two-year contract with a club option of a third, with the Blues hierarchy learning from their previous mistake of handing Graham Potter a five-year contract and sacking him seven months later.

According to The Athletic, the former Tottenham boss comes into a mess majorly down to an over-bloated squad which he must first downsize to help with squad management. If the boss keys into his vision, the relationship will yield fruits.

Pochettino to uphold winning culture

Former owner Roman Abramovich created a winning culture at Chelsea, and the only season the team went trophyless during his 19-year reign was 2019/20, during which they were under a transfer embargo.

Poch recognises this, and in his first interview with Chelsea TV, he stressed the importance of upholding the culture and bring happiness back to the fans.

“It is exciting for us and what we want is to bring happiness again to this great football club,” he said. “We will work hard, play in a way the fans can enjoy football, and the history of Chelsea is to win.
“In the last 10, 12, 15 years, Chelsea is the greatest team in England. I think our fans are excited to again be on the road of trying to win.”

The 51-year-old first set of silverware was won at Paris Saint-Germain during his one-and-half-season stint in the French capital club. He is yet to win in England and his first at Stamford Bridge would be the first in the country.

Pochettino arrives Cobham in style

Sports Brief previously reported that Pochettino arrived Cobham in style this morning to officially begin work, having been held back by an exit clause in his PSG contract when he was sacked.

He arrived in a Mercedes-Benz V-Class SUV and in the company of his assistant Jesus Perez and his son, Sebastiano, who works as a fitness coach. The fans were quick to applaud his aura on social media.
