  • This year's summer transfer window saw a number of Premier League stars switching clubs
  • Numerous top stars were also left without a team at the close of the window's deadline day
  • David de Gea, Jesse Lingard, and Phil Jones are among top players currently without a club

A number of Premier League stars have been rendered clubless after running down contracts at their respective clubs or departing as free agents.

Manchester United veteran, David de Gea is probably the most notable EPL player without a club after negotiations over a new contract broke down.

According to The Sun at the time, De Gea was offered a one-year contract extension at Man United on vastly reduced terms.

The experienced goalkeeper is said to have signed the contract before the team backed out of the offer to embark on a hunt for a new prolific shot-stopper.

De Gea remains without a club although he has been spotted training hard - perhaps in anticipation of an offer as the season continues.

Sports Brief takes a look at the top Premier League stars who remain clubless as of October 2023:

Jesse Lingard

The Englishman spent last season with Nottingham Forest, who he joined on a free transfer in the summer of 2022.

However, he and five others are hunting for a new club once again after their deals expired, the club confirmed in a statement. He has been linked with a possible move to the MLS.

Phil Jones

The injury-plagued defender was finally released by Man United at the end of last season when his contract expired.

It remains to be seen which club he will join next, although he has become involved with the youth set-up at Carrington and plans to pursue his coaching accreditation, per talkSport.

Jean-Phillipe Gbamin

The Ivorian, who represented France at the youth levels, signed for Everton in August 2019 on a five-year deal. However, he was shipped off on loan twice during that time.

Gbamin had his contract terminated by the club in September this year and he remains clubless, per a statement on Everton's official website.

David de Gea

Many fans have slammed Man United for the manner in which their seasoned goalkeeper, de Gea parted ways with the club despite his commitment to a new deal.

The Spaniard is said to be considering his retirement if he cannot find a club which sets him as the number 1 between the sticks, as Sports Brief also reported.
