Arsenal legend Kanu Nwankwo is set to be named as the chairman of the Nigeria Professional Football League club Enyimba.
It was gathered that the board of the People's Elephant was dissolved by the Abia State Government last week.
Football administrator Felix Anyansi-Agwu had been in charge of the team for over 23 years, seeing the club win nine NPL titles and two CAF Champions League titles.
Daily Post reports that Kanu, a former Premier League winner and Arsenal legend, has been earmarked for the position.
Enyimba will compete in the CAF Champions League next season.
Soccernet reports that players and officials of the reigning NPFL kings are already looking forward to life under the two-time Africa Player of the Year winner.
The 46-year-old Kanu will also reunite with his former international teammate Finidi George, the club coach.
The pair were part of Louis van Gaal’s Ajax which won the UEFA Champions League in 1995 following a 1-0 triumph over Serie A outfit AC Milan inside Ernst-Happel Stadium in Vienna.
Enyimba are NPFL champions
Meanwhile, Enyimba Football Club are champions of the 2022/2023 NPFL season following their 1-1 draw against Rivers United on Sunday, June 11.
It was the final match of the Super 6 competition in Lagos, and the People's Elephants battled hard to claim the prestigious title for the ninth time in their history.
Remo Stars ended second on the log and will also compete in the CAF CL for the first time in their history, while the dethroned Rivers United will have to drop to the CAF Confederation Cup.

Sports Brief earlier reported that Akwa United and Sporting Lagos have been named as wildcards for the Naija Super 8 finals, to be held at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Lagos from July 7-16.
The two wildcard entrants were announced during the Naija Super 8 draws, broadcast live on SuperSport on Wednesday night.
The draws were conducted by Super Eagles legend Victor Ikpeba and scorer of the best goal at the just-concluded Naija Super 8 play-offs, Okon Ini-Obong.
