FootballJose Mourinho Contacts Mason Greenwood As His Man United Future Remains Uncertain
- Jose Mourinho is interested in signing Mason Greenwood on a short-term loan
- Greenwood is yet to play competitive football for over 15 months after his court charges
- Manchester United are yet to disclose what path they will take with the striker
Jose Mourinho has reportedly reached out to embattled Manchester United striker Mason Greenwood over the possibility of linking up at AS Roma.
Greenwood's return to professional football remains unclear, with Manchester United yet to provide a way forward after his much-publicised case last year.
The 21-year-old was suspended by his club after he was accused of sexual assault and coercive behaviour. He was arrested and arraigned in court, but his charges have since been dropped by the Crown Prosecution Services.
In essence, the dropping of charges meant that the striker could return to playing. However, the Red Devils promised to conduct their own internal investigations before clearing Greenwood for a return.
There have been reports that the club would consider sending him out on loan with a couple of clubs interested. As Goal reports, AS Roma have seemingly entered the race with Mourinho personally contacting Greenwood.

The Special One is said to have reached out to the player's father to discuss the possibility of a loan move to the Serie A.
"Jose rang Mason’s dad and also spoke with Mason. He told him the best way out of his current situation is to start playing football — and that, eventually, all the hassle will fade away," a source told the Sun.
It was during Mourinho's reign at Old Trafford that Greenwood was promoted to the senior team and signed his first professional contract.
He would then later blossom under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer before his career was halted by his court cases. The Giallarossi are actively looking for a striker, with Tammy Abraham set to be out for at least nine months after suffering an anterior cruciate ligament injury.
