It is the end of the road for Cesc Fabregas regarding his playing career, as the Spaniard announced his retirement on Saturday, July 1.
Fabregas retires having won everything that can be won in men’s football, including the World Cup in 2010.
Taking to social media, the former Arsenal man released a lengthy statement revealing the reasoning behind his decision to hang his boots.
"It is with great sadness that the time has come for me to hang up my playing boots. From my first days at Barca, Arsenal, Barca again, Chelsea, Monaco and Como, I will treasure them all.” His statement read.
"From lifting the World Cup, the Euros, to winning everything in England and Spain and nearly all the European trophies, it has been a journey that I’ll never forget.
“Not all sadness”
In his statement, Fabregas further insisted it was ‘not all sadness’ since he was still planning to be within the footballing helm with his current club, Serie B side Como.
“I’m now going to cross the white line and start coaching the B and Primavera teams of Como 1907. A club and a project I couldn’t be more excited about,” he went on.
Fabregas’ career in a nutshell
The Spaniard started his professional career in 2003 with Arsenal at the tender age of 16, becoming the youngest player in the club to make a senior debut.
He had a breakthrough campaign the following season, playing 46 times across all competitions and winning the FA Cup with the Gunners in the process.

FootballIn 2011, he moved to his boyhood club Barcelona after making 300 appearances for Arsenal and eventually won his first league title in 2013 with the Catalan giants.
After a successful three-year stint in Spain, Fabregas returned to England, joining Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea, which dominated the league in 2014/15, winning the title.
Fabregas made 198 appearances for the Blues, winning three major trophies before eventually moving to Monaco in January 2019. His stint in France was rigged with injuries, and he ultimately embarked on a final adventure in Italy with Serie B side Como.
At Como, he made 17 appearances last season as they finished 13th.
As per Transfermkt, Fabregas has made a total of 738 professional appearances which have included caps for Spain during their golden era where they won three successive major tournaments from 2008 thanks to some devastating football.
He has scored 115 times and has seven honours.
