Real Madrid defender David Alaba has finally made it clear that he actually wanted to play for the Nigerian national team years back stressing that there was no formal approach for him by those in charge of the team and the NFF.
David Alaba was born in Vienna to a Nigerian father and an Austrian mother and the 31-year-old had the chance to play for the Super Eagles of Nigeria.
Over the years, Nigeria had succeeded in convincing some players who were born in Europe to play for the Super Eagles. Ola Aina and Alex Iwobi are some who decided to feature for the three-time African champions.
According to the report on Sun, the former Bayern Munich star explained that he wanted to play for the Nigerian team because of his father.
Alaba wanted to play for Nigeria
“I wanted to play for Nigeria but I must confess that there was no formal approach for me. A scout actually discussed that with me. I was excited because of my dad. He was a fan of Sunday Oliseh when Oliseh played for FC Koln. As a kid, I loved to watch Victor Agali in the jersey of Hansa Rostock.''
Alaba also named former Super Eagles captain Okocha as his hero.
Alaba meets President Tinubu
Earlier, Sports Brief had reported how David Olatokunbo Alaba on Friday evening, June 23, presented his shirt to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu when he met the former Lagos State Governor in Paris, France.
For the past few days, President Tinubu has been in Paris where he has been having a series of meetings toward the development of Nigeria.
