Former Super Eagles gaffer, Gernot Rohr has disclosed one of his curious experiences that went unnoticed when he was in charge of the three-time African champions under the Amaju Pinnick-led NFF board.
The German tactician disclosed how the Nigerian Minister of Sports, Sunday Dare unexpectedly showed up at one of the team’s training sessions accompanied by a swarm of journalists.
Dare was in Lagos to check and monitor the level of preparations of the Super Eagles as Sports Minister.
According to reports on Naija Footballer and The Cable, Rohr explained that his assistant spoke to him about the danger ahead if he should refuse to allow the Sports Minister to join the training.
Rohr speaks about Sunday Dare
“Two years ago in Nigeria, the sports minister suddenly showed up with 40 or 50 journalists at training and wanted to play along.
“I was perplexed. My assistant said we have to let him join us, or we’ll all be gone tomorrow. Without further ado, we added a circle game for him, and everything was fine.”
The former Burkina Faso handler was later sacked by the NFF just a month before the kickoff of the 2021 African Cup of Nations.
He was replaced with former Nigerian international Austin Eguavoen.
