  • Juventus have reportedly secured the signing of Timothy Weah from French side Lille
  • The son of African football legend and Liberian president, George Weah, costs €12mil
  • Timothy represents the country of his birth, the United States, in international football

Juventus are set to complete the signing of striker, Timothy Weah, from Lille as the striker calls it quits on his time in France and prepares for a new adventure in Italy.

Timothy is the son of an African football legend and the only Ballon d'Or winner from Africa, George Weah, who is also the President of Liberia.

Weah will replace the outgoing Serbian striker, Dusan Vlahovic, who has reportedly grown frustrated with life under Italian head coach, Massimiliano Allegri.

The 22-year-old joined the French Ligue 1 side from rivals, Paris Saint-Germain, in 2019 after spending the season before on loan in Scotland with Celtic.

Weah moves to Serie A

According to transfer expert, Fabrizio Romano, the Old Lady will pay €12 million to secure the services of the American international striker.

He has big boots to fill in the Calcio league, as his father won the golden ball in 1995 while playing for AC Milan and scored 46 league goals during his time in Italy.

Weah’s signing has raised questions among Juve fans, who feel their new signing scored only six league goals during his time with Lille and is unlikely to be able to bear the burden of a bigger club.

Mirror UK reported that he is the ninth-most expensive US men's national team transfer ever, with Christian Pulisic’s transfer to Chelsea from Borussia Dortmund for $65mil the costliest.

Osimhen breaks Serie A records

In news related to the Italian league, Sports Brief reported on Victor Osimhen breaking Serie A records en route to guiding Napoli to their first Scudetto in 33 years.

The Nigerian striker surpassed Cameroonian legend, Samuel Eto'o's most single-season goals by an African in the Italian league with his strike against Udinese.

Osimhen also matched George Weah’s record of 46 goals in Serie A - the most by an African player - a record he eventually surpassed before the season ended.
