Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo are among the top football stars who burst onto the scene in this century.

The duo has gone on to dominate the scene for years, with their dominance and longevity seeing them shatter many records and set new ones.

Messi and Ronaldo also lead the way in the list of the top goal-scorers since 2000 for both club and country at the highest level, per GiveMeSport.

It is already tough enough to score goals, but it takes a special player to achieve this consistently every season in the top echelons of pro football.

Ronaldo, Messi top goal-scoring list

None come close to doing it better than Ronaldo and Messi, with the former leading the charts with an eyewatering 838 goals to his name for both club and country.

According to Goal, the five-time Ballon d'Or winner has scored an impressive 123 goals for Portugal, with 684 others scored for the clubs he has turned out for.

Clubs Ronaldo has starred for include Sporting Lisbon, Manchester United, Real Madrid, Juventus, and most recently, Al-Nassr.

On his part, Messi has 807 goals to his name for both club and country. He will be keen to add to his tally when he moves to Inter Miami in the American MLS.

Guinness World Records honours Ronaldo

In related news, Guinness World Records honoured Ronaldo before kickoff as he reached 200 games for Portugal almost 20 years after his debut, as Sports Brief reported.

The Real Madrid and Manchester United legend has made an impact at every club he joined in his career, and his recent move to Al-Nassr seems to have gone well so far.
