Manchester City Star Wins Prestigious Award in the Premier League

Football Writers' Association have named Manchester City defender Ruben Dias as their best player of the year following an incredible performances this term for the Citizens.

Since joining the Citizens from Benfica, Ruben Dias has been in incredible form for Manchester City and has already helped the side win the Premier League title this term.

The last defender to be recognized with this award in the Premier League was Liverpool's Steve Nicol and that was in the year 1989.

According to the report on BBC and Sky Sports, the Portuguese footballer expressed happiness for the recognition by those writing football stories.

"It is a huge privilege. Obviously I could not have done it without the success of the team," said Dias.

"I think me receiving this prize is the major example of how our team works, the way we build our game.
"It reflects all the togetherness we have on the pitch, how we perform and the spirit that is in the team and with these players."

Ruben Dias started his football career at Benfica Youth team in 2008 and was there until 2015 before he moved to the second team.

His good performances paved ways for him into the senior team in 2017 where he played 91 games netting nine goals for Benfica.

He is expected to be in the squad for Manchester City in their Champions League final game against Chelsea.

Earlier, Legit.ng had reported how Ederson has been crowned the goalkeeper with the most clean sheets in the Premier league earning him the Golden Gloves award.

Man City's number shoot-stopper has kept 18 clean sheets so far tied with Chelsea's Edouard Mendy and with one game left to play in the current season.

The 27-year-old won the award in the previous season with 16 clean sheets and has bettered his own record with 18.

The Brazilian was the in between the sticks when the Citizens conceded three goals in the 3-2 loss away at Brighton.

Ederson is also the only goalkeeper that has conceded the least amount of goals among first-choice goalkeepers who have played a comparable amount of games letting in 28 in 35 appearances.
