Lionel Messi has spoken for the first time about the jeers and boos he received from Paris Saint-Germain during the course of the 2022/23 season.

The 35-year-old superstar arrived in Paris in 2021 with much fanfare, but his two-year stay with the Ligue 1 giants became sour, with fans turning on the six-time Ballon d’Or winner.

According to Give Me Sport, Messi revealed there was a rift between him and a section of the PSG support but admitted it was their way of doing things when they are upset.

"There was a rift with a large section of the Paris crowd. Of course, it wasn't my intention. But these are things that have already happened with Mbappé and Neymar, too, it's their way of doing things. But I still remember all those people who supported me as they did at the start."

Messi will leave the Ligue 1 champions when his contract expires at the end of June, with the Argentine superstar joining Major League Soccer team Inter Miami.

PSG send Messi birthday wishes

Meanwhile, PSG have wished Lionel Messi a happy 36th birthday with a special Twitter message, barely a month after the Argentine confirmed his departure from the club, Goal reports.

The six-time Ballon d’Or winner risked the club's wrath by reportedly urging Mbappe to leave the Ligue 1 champions with Real Madrid waiting in line to snap up the French forward.

Messi was also was suspended for two weeks after making an unsanctioned trip to Saudi Arabia, and he was booed by sections of the Parc des Princes upon his return.

Earlier, Sports Brief reported Lionel Messi reportedly told Kylian Mbappe he deserves a real winning project in a dig aimed at PSG before joining Inter Miami, as intense speculation surrounds the French superstar's future.

The explosive revelation comes following the uncertainty about Kylian Mbappe’s future at PSG.

Messi ultimately implored the 24-year-old to play for a club that will compete for the biggest trophies in European football.
