According to The Conversation, the word ‘Jollof’ refers to an ancient kingdom that was a part of Senegal between the 12th and 13th centuries. The platform added:

“More broadly, we found that the origin of the dish is linked to a particular period in history – the entrenchment of colonial rule in West Africa.”

While appearing as a guest on the Flagrant Podcast with hosts Andrew Schulz and Akaash Singh, Israel Adesanya was asked if Nigerians are jealous that Ghana and Senegal are claiming to own Jollof.

He replied:

"We ain't jealous; also jollof rice came from Nigeria."

Schulz then asked the fighter about a chicken skewer dish from Nigeria. ‘Izzy' responded that Suya made from Goat meat is what he likes.

He added via Pulse:

"So yeah no no it's not chicken it's normally goat meat or beef nose. It's like hey you are what you eat alhamdulillah oh.
"Suya is the best food that's my favorite food on the planet because also I've had it in America."

Patrice Evra settles Jollof debate

Meanwhile, Sports Brief earlier reported that Former Manchester United captain Patrice Evra suggested that the Jollof rice war between Ghana and Nigeria 'will never end'.

With its tantalising aroma, deep-red colour and spicy flavour, jollof rice is the undisputed queen of West African kitchens.

The Senegal-born superstar has continued to engage his Instagram followers as he gave an update, claiming a ‘big guy’ accosted him in a restaurant and wrote to him never to undermine the Nigerian Jollof.
