FootballMan Utd Receive Transfer Boost As Chelsea Lower Mount’s Asking Price to £65M
- Manchester United saw a second bid worth £50m for Mason Mount rejected yesterday
- The Red Devils are expected to return with an improved offer but will not be held ransom
- Mount reportedly reiterated his stance to his club that he would not be extending his current deal
Chelsea are conceding defeat in their bid to keep Mason Mount or get a higher transfer fee for him, and have reportedly lowered their asking price amid Manchester United’s interest.
Mount and Chelsea could not reach an agreement over an extension of his current contract, which expires next summer, and both parties are ready to move on.
Multiple reports in the English media suggest salary and length of the contract were the gaps between the two parties, with the player unwilling to accept a lengthy contract rolled out recently.
BBC Sport reports that United are his preferred destination, with Arsenal also interested. The Blues have rejected two recent bids.
Chelsea lower Mount’s price
The London club’s initial valuation of their prized academy star was £85m, which has put the Red Devils off the deal and made them ready to look elsewhere.
The Athletic reports that in their note of rejection for a second bid, Chelsea made a counteroffer and requested that United send a proposal of £60m plus £5m in add-ons to close the deal.
The club lowered their valuation as the player’s camp communicated their position about a new deal, which remains no extension as of this moment.
If a deal is agreed upon, Mount will become the third player Chelsea will sell to direct English rivals after Mateo Kovacic signed with Manchester City and Kai Havertz went to Arsenal, subject to medicals and official announcements.
