  • Peter Shalulile has scored four goals in four games for Namibia in the current Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers
  • Sadio Mane scored a hat-trick against Benin in Senegal's opening fixture and has now netted five goals in total
  • Victor Osimhen leads the way when it comes to goals scored in the African Cup of Nations qualifiers with seven

Peter Shalulile is proving why he’s one of the most lethal African strikers in world football at the moment.

The Mamelodi Sundowns striker was again on target for Namibia in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, taking his tally to four goals in four games.

As noted by SuperSport, Shalulile got onto the scoresheet in the game against Burundi, but it was not enough to bag a win for his side. Burundi won the game 3-2, taking themselves level with Cameroon on four points in the group.

While the Sundowns star's goal did not impact the game's final result, it did move him up the 2023 AFCON qualifiers’ scorer charts.

Who scored more than Shalulile?

Only Nigeria’s Victor Osimhen and Senegal’s Sadio Mane have scored more goals during the current AFCON qualifying campaign.

Bayern Munich's Mane has scored five goals thus far, including a hat-trick against Benin. Napoli's Osimhen has scored seven goals, Transfermarkt noted, including four against São Tomé and Príncipe.

It is important to note that Namibia will have played two games less than both Senegal and Nigeria, as they have one team less in their qualifying group.

Shalulile’s Namibia await final game

Burundi’s win over Namibia means the final game of the group stages could significantly impact the final standings. Namibia are currently top of the group but are only a point above Burundi and Cameroon.

Shalulile wins Golden Boot award

Shalulile has officially won his third Lesley Manyathela Golden Boot award, Sports Brief previously reported.

The Namibian striker finished the 2022/23 season with 12 goals, tying with Cape Town City’s Khanyisa Mayo.

Both strikers were tied on 12 goals heading into the final fixtures, with four other players close to the award.
