Asamoah Gyan announced his retirement from football after an illustrious career which has seen him break and set many records.
Despite hanging his boots at the age of 37, the former Ghana captain holds the record of being the country's all-time leading scorer.
Gyan started his career with the national team in 2004 and spent almost two decades with the Black Stars, scoring 51 goals. He also holds the enviable record of scoring six goals at the World Cup, making him Africa's top scorer at the global event.
One other record the striker shared was with five-time Ballon d'Or winner, Cristiano Ronaldo.
Gyan and Ronaldo remained the only two players to score in nine consecutive tournaments until the Portuguese superstar extended his record at the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
The former Sunderland striker had to ponder for years before finally deciding to call it quits on an illustrious career.
"I want to take this great opportunity, a stage that is difficult in every footballer's career, a moment all footballers do not wish, but when nature dawns, that thin voice will keep echoing into the ears... it is time... that voice has been clear in my ears, and I have succumbed to it, it is time. It is time to hand the jersey and boots in glory as I officially retire from active football," he said.
Gyan played for several clubs including Stade Rennais, Udinese and Al Ain.
He last played for Ghana Premier League side Legon Cities.
