Mourinho rejects lucrative Saudi offer to stay at Roma
FootballPotential Man United Owner Willing to Bring Ole Gunnar Solskjaer Back to the Club
- Manchester United legend Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been lined up for a possible return
- The Red Devils are currently in talks with Sheikh Jassim who is a favourite for a takeover
- Solskjaer served as the manager of the club for three years before he was sacked in 2021
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer could soon return to Manchester United should the bid by Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani go through. The potential new owner is interested in offering a role to the retired striker and former manager.
Solskjaer was part of Sir Alex Ferguson's conquering side in the late 1990s and early 2000s before he returned to the club in a managerial capacity, following the sacking of Jose Mourinho.
The Norwegian oversaw a contrasting time at the club, which saw him fail to win silverware but also finish in a decent second place behind Manchester City.
He was eventually sacked in 2021, paving way for the appointment of Ralf Rangnick on an interim basis. The German left at the end of his short-term contract with current boss, Erik ten Hag, starting off last summer.
Solskjaer's role at Manchester United
The Daily Mail now reports that Sheikh Jassim will be willing to give the former boss a role at Old Trafford, should his takeover bid be successful.
The Qatari is believed to be among the frontrunners to acquire Manchester United, with current owners, the Glazer family looking to sell a part or the whole club.
The race is now down to Sheikh Jassim and Britain's richest man, Jim Ratcliffe.
The report indicates the Qatari Royal is keen on leaving the running of the club to former legends and Solskjaer's name has been floated as one of the candidates.
It is highly unlikely the running of the club in this sense will mean a change of managers, with ten Hag having done a splendid job in his first season in charge.
Last month, Solskjaer revealed that he was interested in getting back to work.
Qatar bid for Man Utd awaiting clarity after reports of exclusivity offer
Football"I’ve got another job in me if it’s the right chance and exciting enough. There are so many clubs, but I’m not going to work just for the sake of working. It has to be something special, a new culture, or a club that really excites me. Or maybe they will want me back at United in some capacity, who knows?" he said, as quoted by the Mirror.
Mbappe on Sheikh Jassim's radar
Sports Brief also reported that even before his dream of acquiring Man United goes through, Sheikh Jassim is already plotting big-money moves should he take over as the new owner.
He intends to make some high-profile signings, led by Kylian Mbappe, who continues to be linked with a move away from Paris Saint-Germain after declining an extension of his current deal.
Real Madrid have always been the perceived option for the 24-year-old, and it will be interesting to see just what lengths Sheikh Jassim would pursue to see the transfer become a reality.
