Mbappe's retaken penalty propelled him to become the highest-scoring Frenchman in a single season for both club and country, surpassing the legendary Just Fontaine with an impressive tally of 54 goals.
During this remarkable feat, the 24-year-old phenom advanced to just one goal shy of Michel Platini's record on France's all-time scoring list, per The Indian Express.

With this victory, courtesy of the Paris Saint-Germain star, the two-time world champions find themselves six points ahead of their nearest competitor, Greece.
This has highlighted their unrivalled dominance on both ends of the pitch, having yet to concede a single goal, the BBC reports.
How France beat Greece
An Mbappe penalty gave France the victory over 10-man Greece on Monday, to maintain their perfect record in qualifying for Euro 2024, Sports Brief reported.
The PSG superstar and French captain had his initial kick saved early in the second half but was allowed a second attempt because of encroachment by a defender.
Mbappe made no mistake this time and France could have won by more after Greece's Konstantinos Mavropanos was sent off for barging into Randal Kolo Muani.
Mbappe to stay at PSG
In related news, Sports Brief reported that Mbappe said him staying at PSG was his 'only option for now' after telling the club he would not be extending his contract beyond 2024.
The Frenchman reiterated his plan after several reports linking him away from Ligue 1, with the Parisians reportedly considering selling him now to avoid losing him for free next season.
