  • Arsenal are expected to bolster their squad further ahead of this summer's transfer window
  • The Gunners are keen on new additions to help boost their bid to challenge for the Premier League title
  • The north Londoners fell short in that bid during the just-concluded season, with Man City beating them to the crown

Arsenal are set for a busy summer transfer window that will see the club make a couple of new signings in a bid to strengthen their squad in preparation for next season.

The Gunners enjoyed a successful 2022/23 campaign that saw them secure a second-place finish in the Premier League and a return to the Champions League.

Their impressive campaign saw Mikel Arteta's men come close to winning the Premier League title for the first since 2004.

However, The Sun reports that they were beaten to the crown by Manchester City in the closing stages of the season, much to the disappointment of fans.

The north Londoners are expected to build on the momentum next term, with the club among the teams expected to challenge for the Premier League.

They would need to make heavy investments in new signings this summer for their squad depth to match City's and possibly Manchester United's.

Sports Brief takes a look at five transfers the Gunners need to make to challenge for the EPL next season:

5. Joao Cancelo

Defence is definitely one of the key areas that need improvement at Arsenal.

And with With Kieran Tierney expected to leave this summer, the EPL giants will need to sign another full-back.

They can look in the direction of Joao Cancelo, who can offer a winning mentality along with plenty of experience.

Cancelo spent the first half of the season with Man City before he joined Bayern on loan.

4. Rasmus Hojlund

The Atalanta forward has widely been touted as the next Erling Haaland, thanks to his incisiveness in front of the goal.

While Arsenal are not short of attacking options, adding the youngster to their squad would go a long way, especially when it comes to squad rotation.

3. Kai Havertz

The Chelsea star has already been heavily linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium.

According to Metro UK, Arsenal are the leading contenders for the services of the German star.

The Gunners have also been heavily linked with a move for Chelsea ace Havertz in recent weeks.

Havertz could prove to be an excellent addition to Arteta, as he can play in several positions.

2. Ilkay Gundogan

The German midfielder has emerged as a big subject of transfer speculation this summer.

Fresh from winning the treble with Man City, Gundogan would no doubt fancy a fresh challenge.

Adding the midfielder to the team would be a big plus to the Arsenal team as the City skipper will bring the much-needed leadership and winning mentality.

1. Declan Rice

The West Ham United midfielder has been linked with a move to Arsenal this summer.

The 24-year-old midfielder has been Arteta's top transfer target since January.

Should he seal the move, the Englishman will walk straight into Arteta's first XI.

Arteta rejects Sanchez

Earlier, Sports Brief reported Arsenal boss, Mikel Arteta has reportedly rejected Alexis Sanchez's request to make a sensational return to the Emirates Stadium this summer.

The Chilean forward spent close to five years with the Gunners between 2014 and 2018 before he sealed a shocking move to Manchester United.

However, his stint at Old Trafford did not go according to plan, and he was subsequently shipped out to Inter Milan.
