Lionel Messi is reportedly bringing a friend along for the ride in Major League Soccer.

According to reports, Sergio Busquets - the legendary FC Barcelona midfielder - will be joining Messi at Inter Miami.

Busquets is set to sign a contract until 2025, per CBS Sports, after nearly two decades at the Catalans. The midfielder, who has been on vacation in Kenya with his family, confirmed in May that he would leave the club once his contract expired at the end of the season.

The 34-year-old played with Messi at Barcelona between 2008 and 2021, before the Argentine joined Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer.

Further reports, via Diario AS, confirmed Inter Miami are closing in on an agreement with Busquets which would see him reunite with Messi in Florida.

Busquets still winning at 34

While Busquets' salary had become a problem for Barcelona, the iconic pivot continued to produce and lead the Blaugrana to victories in 2022/23.

Busquets signed off at Camp Nou Spotify by winning his ninth La Liga crown with Barcelona, and his first as club captain. Throughout his time there, Busquets amassed an impressive record of 722 appearances, securing nine La Liga titles, three Champions Leagues, and seven Copa del Rey, along with various other prestigious honours.

Although he retired from the national team in December, Busquets played in the Nations League group stage with Spain, a competition La Roja won on Sunday after a shootout with Croatia.
