  • Eden Hazard and Real Madrid mutually agreed to part ways at the end of last season
  • He spent four trouble years in the Spanish capital since his big-money move in 2019
  • There are reports he is considering retirement from professional football after leaving Madrid

Eden Hazard looks to have debunked the rumours he is considering retirement from professional football after his contract at Real Madrid was mutually terminated.

Hazard spent four years in Madrid since he moved from Chelsea in 2019 in a transfer that cost a total of £160m, including add-ons, all of which were fulfilled.

He struggled with different injuries, which made him miss more games than he played, scoring only seven goals for his ‘dream club’ and failing to record a single minute in El Clasico.

Spanish outlet Relevo reported that the 32-year-old has retirement among his options if he does not receive a satisfying offer to continue football after his issues of the past years.

Hazard quashes retirement rumours

The former Lille forward announced his international retirement after a group-stage elimination from the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup with Belgium.

He was given a lap of honour ahead of the Euro 2024 qualifier game against Austria, which ended 1-1 and spoke on his future afterwards, admitting he read a lot of untrue reports.

“Honestly, I don’t know yet,” he told RTBF via Metro UK about his future.
“After three complicated years, I just want to spend time with my family, go on vacation, like everyone. We’ve read a lot of stuff in the last few days, and a lot of nonsense.”

He honestly admitted his past years in Madrid were not for work but for rest, as he did not play much.

“I don’t know, we’ll see… I still feel capable of being a professional footballer, but at the same time, I’ve been resting for two or three years. I still have a bit of energy!”

Kroos cautioned over Hazard’s comment

Sports Brief reported that Chelsea fans slammed Toni Kroos after he aimed a brutal dig at Hazard while advising Madrid’s new signing Jude Bellingham.

Hazard was a fan-favourite in London, and his situation in Spain was not pleasing to them. To see a teammate make such claims about him left them raging on social media.
